There is a reason we have people stand beside us when we get married and in the audience when we say our “I Do’s”.
The reason–We need people.
But not just any people. We need the right people.
Surround yourself with friends that will strengthen your marriage and distance yourself from people that may tempt you to compromise your character.
Marriage is hard enough as it is and the last thing we need is a bunch of “friends with good intentions” compromising the single most important human relationship in our lives.
When we agree to do pre-marriage counseling and then a wedding ceremony, we require the couple to write us a check for $1000.00 with the understanding we will give the check back after they meet with us 6 times within the first year of their marriage. We want to know many things, but one of the most important… describe to us the company you are keeping.
Find the people that will listen, encourage, and stand beside you.
#freebie – don’t ever ask one of your “people” to listen to your woes about your spouse. Talk about your woes with your spouse first, share as a couple with another couple next, and if the woe is still great, talk to a pastor or counselor.
